Legacy Roofing Contributes Resources to New Center Benefiting Local Homeless Children
Vision House's first structure of "The Children's Village" project will provide daycare and housing to transitional homeless mothers
August, 2005 - Legacy Roofing, a 16-year old quality roofing installation company serving the Seattle area, contributed resources to help complete the first in a new series of buildings being constructed through Vision House, a Renton, Wash.-based non-profit, that will help homeless residents successfully re-enter the community. The building is the first of three proposed structures that comprise "The Children's Village", which provides structured daycare and transitional housing services to homeless single mothers living in Renton.

The new building, dedicated May 31, was largely made possible through donations from more than 100 local contractors, including Legacy, who together donated more than $1 million in supplies and labor through HomeAid Master Builders Care, a program of the Master Builders Care Foundation. The Care Foundation is a charitable arm of the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties. Legacy, a member of the Master Builders Association since 1989, contributed a $2,500 cash donation that went toward purchasing roofing materials for the building.
"With support from local businesses like Legacy Roofing, 'The Children's Village' is becoming a reality, and we are grateful for their contributions," said Vision House Director of Operations John Camerer. "We constructed the first Vision House facility in 2001, which has been tremendously successful and prompted the need to expand further in order to provide more needy families with housing and support services."
"The Children's Village" complex, scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2006, is located within walking distance of the Visions House's existing facility to provide integrated support. The initial building includes a 5,500 square-foot daycare center, with four two-bedroom housing units above. The remaining buildings will provide space for counseling offices, administration staff, resident programs, and additional housing.
"Legacy Roofing has enjoyed many successful years of business in local communities and we are eager to give back," said Cliff Hurn, founder and chief executive officer of privately-held Legacy. "Simply having a roof over their head is a significant step for homeless individuals working to improve their lives, and we are honored to be able to support the Vision House and their project."
